Croghan Hill

A new trig pillar for Croghan Hill
I worked with Offaly County Council, the community of Croghan and poet Pauline McNamee to design and make a new Trig Pillar for Croghan Hill in Co. Offaly. The Kilkenny Limestone sculpture replaces the badly damaged concrete Trig Pillar from the mid twentieth century. The four sides represent four of the many stories about the hill, with haikus composed by Pauline carved in the margins.
St. Patrick’s Horse
St. Patrick’s horse kicked a rock on Croghan Hill and opened the Holy Well on the hill.
Old Croghan Man
Old Croghan Man was found in a bog at the foot of Croghan Hill.
St. Brigid
St. Brigid was given her veil on Croghan Hill.
Volcanic Eruption
Croghan Hill was originally a volcano.
Mixed Bag Media produced this video of Croghan Hill, which gives a wonderful sense of the character of the place. www.mixedbagmedia.com
